…meeting the equator

…since the beginning of our travels we have visited 11 countries and not of yet, seen any of the great five (elephant/tiger/lion/hippo/ giraffe).  This is a discovery of mankind expedition. It has been awakening, humbling, and concerning.  Awakening  as I observe a store proprietor find value in selling wood scraps to create fires for families to make their evening meals in a country where wood is non existent. I have been humbled as we have visited multitudes of tribal schools where we visit the very young who are captivated about the excitement of life and then we meet the teenagers who  are lost in the complexity of their tribe’s rituals, seeking to find their own idenity as social media challenges who they are. Concerning…. as we learn the population growth statistics and the impact of these predictions.

…as we travel these waters we have additional security and all of our ship lights are off… as all those ships that surround us. I only see darkness everywhere.
