In the early to late 70”s, Sugar Loaf Mt. Resort was my refuge. Born and raised in Maple City, it became my connection to an exciting world, outside the sheltered walls of Leelanau. My Sugar Loaf career included many different positions: chambermaid/waitress/hostess/front desk/lodge reservations.

As a teenager, I knew that I wanted to explore further, this world that Sugar Loaf introduced me to. Working at the “Loaf”, created the financial resource I needed to pursue my vision of a college degree, and then an MBA. More importantly… Sugar Loaf became the anchor of my character, introducing me into a new world, that I chose to explore further, and would later decide to spend my adult years in.

Today, I have a home at the base of the mountain. Each time I look at her, I can’t help but see all that she gave to me.

Since the resort’s shutdown, I have wandered the mountain a few times. With the lens of my camera and an impressionistic vision, I have created images that reflect so many memories. She is not what she was in the 80’s but she stands as a beacon for so many of us.

My portfolio is of Sugar Loaf “after her rise.” It presents the cruel reality that change is inevitable in life. Sugar Loaf Mountain Resort experienced a complete life cycle. She had a wonder life. I will always cherish her most important gift to us all … how she made us feel.

Each of us has our own personal definition of what art is… It is a very powerful experience when a piece of work engages a sense of pleasure within our soul. This is what art is supposed to do. This is what I seek to do.

My work is for sale. If you are interested in owning or gifting one of my pieces to another, my contact information can be found on this site.

Proceeds from your purchase will benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
